FWI Impact Report December 2023

Habari Rafiki.

Here follows the Tanzanian Impact Statement for December 2023:

1. In Longoi village, we completed the new water connection to the village centre, health clinic (where we also installed a placenta pit) and school;

2. In collaboration with local NGO Asante Africa, we supported 152 students to transition from primary to secondary school. Asante Africa provided six weeks of intensive schooling and the necessary school stationary. We provided school uniforms for all 152 students, plus menstrual kits for the 79 female students.

3. We provided essential medical equipment to the following nine health clinics: Makole, Malibwi, Makanya, Kangagai, Mbwei, Matego, Hemtoye, Msale, and Mgwashi.

4. To improve safety for women and their new babies, we installed solar units in the maternity rooms of Nywelo, Kigulunge, Lunguza, and Mkundi ya Mtae health clinics;

5. The Afya ya Mtoto malnourishment project saw seven new children join, the youngest being just eight months old. This took the number of children actively supported to 72 for the month. Unusually, we had a high number (30) of red flags raised as children either remained at the previous month’s weight or actually lost weight. Upon medical inspection of each of them, the main reasons were diarrhoea and flu. We have now decided to distribute a liquid hand soap dispenser to each family as a precautionary measure.
